Kailua 10-Miler 2025: Jay wins it again, and I take third

Jay ran 1:13:11 and won the age group again, and I ran 1:31:23 for third.

Jay has now run three Februarys on the windward side, 1:21, then 1:19, and this year 1:13. He was two months out from a full Ironman and running 7:19 miles into that wind, which is a strange thing for the guy who didn't like running to be doing, and I've quit being surprised by him, or at least I've mostly quit.

I ran 1:31:23 and took third in the 40-44s! That's 9:08 a mile, into the same wind as every February out here, and the wind doesn't take the year off just because we've got an Ironman coming. The legs I brought this time were faster than the ones I brought last time, and honestly that's all I wanted from a 10-miler two months before a full Ironman. I was using it to read where the legs were more than I was racing it, and I liked what it said.
