Kaiwi Coast Run 2022: the first one we ran together on purpose

If you look at the times, 40:18.2 and 40:18.4, mine is the first one, and I'm going to mention that every November for the rest of my life, and Jay knows it. It wasn't a coincidence, though, because we'd made it a rule, and this is the first time the rule shows up on a timing sheet. Three weeks before the first marathon, on a fun run down the coast road, we ran together on purpose, and nobody's watch was supposed to win anything. (Mine won by two tenths, and I did enjoy that.)
We've run this one every November since, and it's the one race a year where whose day is it has an easy answer, which is nobody's. There's no pressure and no pace and nobody's PR on the line, and for somebody who brings her own anxiety to every start line, that is about as close to a vacation as a race gets. It's the same road, the same view, and the same finish, with the two of us a second or so apart.
