Old Pali Road 5K 2022: on my own
A 5K on the closed-off, overgrown stretch of the original highway over the mountains, and it goes up. Jay's name isn't on the sheet.
This one was mine, since Jay's name isn't on the sheet, so there was nobody to pace me, nobody to chase, and nobody to blame but me. The Old Pali Road is the closed-off, overgrown stretch of the original highway over the mountains, and it goes up, so the 5K part is the distance somebody measured, and nothing about it is flat or fast. Did I know that going in? Sort of, as I knew the road went up, but knowing a road goes up and running up it are two different kinds of knowing, and I only had the first one.
I came in at 44:35 on the card, 14:17 a mile, seventh in my age group, which isn't a PR and it isn't a PR course either, but I did enjoy the morning, and it was a road you're not normally allowed to run on.
