Waikiki Roughwater Swim 2025: an hour and a half, together

Calm water from Kaimana Beach to the Hilton, a small current running with us, and about an hour and a half by our watches.

We don't have a full write-up for this one, so here's what's on the record. Michelle and I swam the 2025 Roughwater together, start to finish, in about an hour and a half by our watches. That's twenty minutes faster than my 2023 swim and half an hour faster than Michelle's, on the same course from Kaimana Beach to the Hilton.

It was a pretty enjoyable year. The water was calm the whole way from Kaimana Beach to the Hilton, and there was a small current running with us instead of against us, which is the kind of help you don't notice until the year it isn't there. At the time it just felt like a good morning in clear water. A year later, after the 2026 swim took us almost an hour longer into a current that pulled about 80 people out of the race, this became the one we measure the other one against. The official results for 2025 aren't on the card yet, and when we track them down they'll go here.
